the too(i)let
one of the most remarkable situations i can remember of that little trip was the stop at a pub in bremen. when you are in bremen you would suspect to get some beer (bremen is the home of 'becks'). so my old room mate lead the way downtown and then into a nice pub. after 2 or 3 or .. more beer i need to go to the toilet. i was standing there, lost in my thoughts, drunk and doing what i am supposed to do at the toilet. and there it was .. a song, from very far away as it seemed. the sound had to fight its way through some think fog ... i knew the melody, i knew the drums .. TOOL? at the TOILET? what the f***?!. how crazy is this?
i asked the waitress for who is responsible for the music at the toilet, but she couldn't really answer and was'nt even aware of whats so special about music at *the place*. it was unbelievable, someone had either really good taste or wanted to make fun of some people or both :)
it reminded me of the subversive trainee at a tv station which placed a remixed version of nine inch nails 'closer' as the background music to a report i saw once. and yeah, you could hear them sing 'f*** you like an animal ..', very far away, but you could hear it. at prime time.
but i will never forget the visit at the toolet in bremen.
