saul williams numbers
trent released the numbers of the experiment some days ago and expressed his view on them (trent doesnt support permalinks for his posts atm so i ll just give you the numbers directly):
Saul's previous record was released in 2004 and has sold 33,897 copies.
As of 1/2/08,
154,449 people chose to download Saul's new record.
28,322 of those people chose to pay $5 for it, meaning:
18.3% chose to pay.
Of those paying,
3220 chose 192kbps MP3
19,764 chose 320kbps MP3
5338 chose FLAC
well, after 2 months in the project he almost sold as many copies as for his previous album. without marketing that is.
anyway, here now two views on this topic, one is from saul and the other one is from trent.
i am more on the positive side with saul i must admit. keep in mind: no standard marketing so far, artists make more money with concerts anyway, lots of those downloaders just dont like sauls music (which is absolutly plausible because its not the normal radio bullshit).
