anyway, was kind of a nice trip with one of my bosses. the meeting was as always in a dark room, beamer and talk. our hosts at idg invited us into a small and nice restaurant: la taverna di fra fiusch". excellent food , amazing view from the hill down to the lighted city :)

fluxbox 1.0

he did it ... finally. henrik released the 1.0 of fluxbox, the windowmanager of my choice :) so, the baby is out of the door, the team will switch over to mark's branch and extend fluxbox into that direction. he already has some "experimental" stuff in it, we' ll see how thing work out. the team is also playing around with git to do scm a little bit different...

finished gwen

i did it, i finally finished my first guildwars episode: "gwen" (which stands for "guild wars: eye of the north" and also for a female character in guildwars) :) yay. well, not me alone but a couple of folks i met in the net helped me :) i turn now my focus on finishing nightfall as well, i am pretty close to the end. i post some pics of where i am currently killing evilish creatures ... bad me, bad me.

new pet

a friend of mine and i started a small wallpapersetter, written in c++ and using qt4. we called it 'qubis'. it has its home at qubis.googlecode.com and the first release will follow pretty soon. so far it sets svgs very nice to the background of x11-windowmanagers AND windows xp as well. for now you can grab the code via mercurial from http://darkshed.net:9999/akira/qubis. stay tuned :)

soekris ftw

2 days ago i got my own little soekris, a nice and cosey little "5501-60". its meant to replace the currently running netgear router/wlan_ap soonish for a good reason: a real fbsd instead of an embedded whatever_is_on_that_box. this morning i got it running, it still needs some more tuning but at least it boots and allows me to ssh it. i ll post some pics later. so, for now, soekris for the win :)

the little beast is up and running as you can see:



i've stripped down a normal fbsd install down to 21mb with the help of these nice guys .. but what to do with the rest of the 256mb model? :) i've also used freebsd-update to fetch latest binary updates so the soekris is pretty much up to date. i still dont understand why fbsd is not deploying the altq-module with the default kernel ...

well, it works and tomorrow i ll take over the world :)

silent september

it got a bit silent in september. or maybe not. this was mainly because i moved to together with my gf to a new appartment... which means lots of stuff to carry around, lots of boxes with stuff somewhere, problems to get the internet back up etc. etc. additionally i had to go to bruessels (for the company i work for) which took a week in total because we combined it with vacation. we stayed at this little and nice b&b which is located exactly here. we also took one day to visit brugge, maybe my gf will put some pictures up. after the "tour de belgium" we went to berlin to visit my sister, her boyfriend and some other friends over there. and within a blink of an eye august and september were gone .. silently :)
